How much does therapy cost?

There is a range in the cost of therapy, and many factors determine it. Our cost ranges between $100-$145. If you have insurance coverage, your plan will cover some or most of the cost when you are working with a therapist who is in network with your plan. We have a no-show policy that states we need 48 hours' notice if an appointment needs to be cancelled or rescheduled. Our first session, called an assessment or intake, will cost more than the remaining sessions. This session is at least an hour in length and possibly longer, and this cost covers the additional time needed to complete the assessment, treatment plan, and review any other things that may be needed. The sessions following are cost-adjusted depending on the time spent with the therapist and the difference between individual therapy, family, or group. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers must provide patients who don’t have insurance or aren't using insurance with an estimate of the cost of medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Do you accept insurance? What if I don't have insurance?

We want to make sure there are no surprises when it comes to the cost of your therapy. We are in-network with BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, and Optum, as well as several EAPs. We recommend verifying coverage by calling the number on the back of your insurance card before starting services. If you are paying out-of-pocket or using out-of-network benefits, we provide Superbills to assist with insurance reimbursement. Furthermore, under the No Surprises Act, all self-pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate. This provides you with a clear projection of your treatment costs upfront so you can plan your budget with confidence. Note on Accessibility: Although we are unable to accept Medicaid, TennCare, or Medicare at this time, we do reserve a portion of our practice for sliding scale clients who may need financial assistance.

How long does a counseling session last?

A counseling session with Rooted Paths Counseling PLLC typically lasts for 53-60 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.

How often do I meet with the therapist?

For the first 8-12 sessions, we almost always meet weekly, this is to establish a sense of rapport and trust, a better sense of getting to know each other, your child, or your teen. The frequency of therapy varies based on the phase of treatment, financial and logistical needs of the client, the need for more or less support, and the modality being used. Certain types of therapy require weekly sessions because of their need for consistency. After a time (somewhere between 4-12 sessions), we may taper off to every other week, or month,y or as needed, based on your, your child's, or your teen's needs and goals. Be sure to go over these thoughts with your therapist. Sometimes, we may want to end therapy prematurely, before moving into the phase of treatment.

How long will I be in therapy?

The General Roadmap The Assessment Phase (1-3 Weeks) The first few sessions are about "information gathering." We look at the history, identify triggers, and—most importantly—build a relationship of trust. By the end of this phase, we will have a clear Treatment Plan with specific goals. The Implementation Phase (3-6 months) This is where the "heavy lifting" happens. For Parent Coaching: We are actively testing strategies at home and refining them. For Children/Teens: We are building emotional regulation skills and practicing them in real-time. For PCIT/CPP: These evidence-based models typically show significant shifts within 12 to 20 sessions when practiced consistently The Maintence & Advocacy Phase (Monthly or As-Needed) Once the "Big Behaviors" have settled or the crisis has passed, many families move to a "check-in" model. We might meet once a month to ensure the school advocacy (IEPs) is staying on track or to navigate a new developmental milestone, or to navigate other concerns that you have brought to therapy. Every person's treatment is different, depending on their struggles and their goals. This is an average, but some can take longer. We are here to walk with you through the journey of healing.
